The Loeb is celebrating two milestones this year: the 30th anniversary of the César Pelli-designed museum building and 160 years of Vassar’s art collection.
According to recent studies, four-year colleges in the United States graduate about half of their students in six years. But some institutions, including some that lack the resources of more prestigious colleges and universities, achieve much higher-than-expected results.
From October 12–15, nine alums, three current students, and two faculty members traveled to Kolkata, India, with the Vassar Club South Asia (VCSA) for a four-day immersive program, “Behind the Scenes of Durga Puja.”

Vassar’s fall sports teams are off to strong starts and are in contention for post-season play. The men’s soccer team, paced by Liberty League scoring leader Owen Fauth ’24, battled Montclair (NJ) State University, the sixth-ranked team in the country, to a 1-1 draw.
The Undergraduate Research Summer Institute’s 2023 Symposium showcased the 55 science projects undertaken this summer by 89 students and 33 faculty mentors.
Lynn Straus ’46 was a philanthropist, adventurer, tireless champion of early childhood education, and an avid art collector. Upon her passing, she bequeathed nearly 50 pieces of artwork to the Loeb for the benefit of Vassar’s students.
