Cara Moore, a member of Vassar College Emergency Medical Services (VCEMS), was honored with a proclamation from Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro for spearheading an effort to help helping local public health officials conduct contact tracing to combat the spread of COVID-19.

During Vassar’s 2021 Commencement Ceremony, held on Sunday, June 6, green energy technologist Jessica O. Matthews offered some profoundly unorthodox advice: You don’t need a plan to be successful. President Elizabeth Bradley marveled at the resilience of the Class of 2021. The class president assured classmates that it’s never too late to learn something new. Finally, graduates got to toss their hats and be welcomed as alumnae/i.

During a long, cold Winter Break in the midst of the pandemic, more than 50 Vassar students, faculty, and administrators gathered on Zoom to take part in the first ever Grand Challenges Winter Creative Project. Participants learned to crochet and used those skills to build a massive crocheted “coral reef” to demonstrate the need to address climate change.

Tricia Gonnella Russo ’03 wanted to have a child, and she wasn’t about to let Stage 4 cancer stand in her way. That’s the inspiring storyline of Love Always, Mom, a 90-minute documentary that Russo produced and co-directed that is currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
